RYS' MISSION:

The purposes of the Corporation are to strengthen the community by serving the needs of abused, neglected, and at-risk children and young adults in the Metropolitan Washington, D.C. area and in other jurisdictions as approved by the Board of Directors, by providing a combination of effective and appropriate professional social services including, but not limited to, therapeutic prevention, early intervention, child placement, group and independent living, onsite and offsite counseling, professional referrals, and restorative services, all of which, as approved by the Board of Directors, will be performed in accordance with all pertinent statutes and regulations, as well as the operating and ethical standards of appropriate accrediting and other professional bodies, and any other purpose or act not expressly prohibited by law.
What does RYS do?
Residential Youth Services, Inc. (RYS) serves youth, ages 12-21, and the families of youth who have been abused, neglected, homeless, are pregnant or teen mothers, have family problems, or were released into foster care by their parent due to delinquency or truancy. They experience a range of emotions and behaviors including anger, depression, fear, anxiety, hostility, inappropriate sexual behavior, lack of self-esteem, acting out behaviors, low impulse control, an inability to develop close relationships, and a lack of coping, interpersonal, vocational, and independent living skills.
